Projects

  • Novel protocol for harvesting human adult cardiac stem/progenitor cells from existing tissue banks: This project aims to develop methods for processing and characterising cardiac cell populations in aged and diseased models. This will allow for better understanding of cellular processes and behaviour in heart disease. Ongoing projects will continue refining the characterisation process in in vitro and in vivo models.
  • Platelet Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) as a driver of cardiac repair: We are currently exploring the mechanisms by which recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor (rhPDGF) can modulate cardiac repair processes following myocardial infarction. This research will guide the development of new therapies for treating patients with heart disease.
  • Human Pluripotent Stem Cells (hPSC) for cardiac regeneration: This project aims to investigate methods for enhancing the ability of human PSC-derived cardiomyocytes to repair the injured heart. This research will provide insight into how we can improve stem cell therapies for treating heart failure.
  • Cell populations in cardiac disease and repair: We are using novel techniques including Imaging Mass Cytometery and High Dimesional Flow Cytometry/Cell-sorting to better understand cardiac disease processes and develop cardiac regenerative therapies.
