After completing his doctoral degree in immunogenetics at the University of Bonn, Germany, Golo Ahlenstiel received research fellowship awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH, USA) and from the German Research Foundation (DFG, Germany) to work in the Rehermann laboratory at the NIH on the immunopathogenesis of viral hepatitis, in particular the role of innate immunity in HCV infection. He know heads the Immunology Group at Storr Liver Centre at the The Westmead Institute for Medical Research with a focus on innate immunity in the liver and drivers of inflammation in chronic liver and gastrointestinal disease. Golo Ahlenstiel is currently also a Staff Specialist in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Westmead Hospital.
