Our research uses sophisticated genomic sequencing techniques for the analysis and surveillance of disease outbreaks.

We study the genetic profile of pathogens with epidemic potential to understand the transmission patterns and dynamics of outbreaks. Our work improves the efficiency of epidemic investigation and disease monitoring, and is improving understanding of drug resistance.

We inform public health measures in NSW, and our research plays an important part in the global effort to identify and tackle emerging outbreaks. Our findings are shared widely through international networks and consortia.

Our research group is led by A/Professor Vitali Sintchenko, a practising clinical public health microbiologist, ensuring research discoveries are quickly translated into policy and practice.
