Interferon β (IFN) is a first line antiviral cytokine. However, HIV infection inhibits its production. Plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDCs) are the key producers of IFNα, which plays a protective role during early infection. We will determine the direct antiviral effect of pDCs on HIV transfer to its target cells to understand how HIV reservoirs are established.
