HIV is transmitted predominantly by sexual intercourse. Dendritic cells are the first immune cells that HIV encounters and they play a key role in the transmission of this virus by delivering it to its main target cells in which it explosively replicates. We are investigating which are the key dendritic cells subsets present in different anogenital tissues that mediate transmission.
