Projects

Our current research projects aim to define the mechanism(s) by which key HSV-1 envelope proteins play a role in the virus assembly at the nerve endings using specific deletion mutant viruses, molecular and imaging techniques such as confocal and electron microscopy.

Our aim is to define the neuronal and viral proteins, which facilitate HSV-1 assembly in and subsequent exit from the nerve endings.

We will also investigate the effect of the nerve endings contact and interaction with epithelial cells on virus exit and spread from nerves.
