Diabetes develops when pancreatic beta-cells cannot release enough insulin to control blood glucose levels. This occurs in obesity, during pregnancy or in genetically susceptible individuals. We have an exciting tool called TRAP (Translating Ribosome Affinity Purification) that can be used to investigate how these stresses affect beta-cell gene expression in vivo.
