Registrations are now open for the Precision Medicine: A Revolution in Patient Care conference, which will take place Thursday 20 and Friday 21 May 2021.

This two-day conference will seamlessly blend in-person and virtual attendance, and will showcase the impressive advances being made by local, national and international scientists in the advancement of precision medicine.

The Westmead Health and Innovation Precinct has a long-standing history of improving the quality of human life through the discovery, development and delivery of world-class healthcare solutions.  Precision medicine refers to customisation of disease treatments based on the specifics of an individual’s genes and proteins, as well as considering their environment and lifestyle. Precision medicine stands to revolutionise clinical practice and drastically improve success rates and patient outcomes.
The conference will begin with a keynote presentation from Dr Luhan Yang, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer at eGenesis. Named in Fortune magazine’s “40 Under 40 Influential People in Health, 2020”, this will be a fascinating start to the conference.

The Honourary Gabrielle Upton (Parliamentary Secretary to the NSW Premier) as well as Professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte (NSW Chief Scientist and Engineer) will also join the conference. They will discuss the NSW Government’s plan to accelerate research and development, and how this relates to Westmead.
Other confirmed speakers include Australia’s leaders in precision medicine. Just some of these speakers include:
  • Professor Philip O’Connell – Westmead Institute for Medical Research
  • Professor Roger Reddell – Children’s Medical Research Institute
  • Professor Ian Alexander – Kids Research and Children’s Medical Research Institute
  • Professor Christopher Goodnow – Garvan Institute of Medical Research
  • Associate Professor Germaine Wong – Kids Research
  • Professor Alicia Oshlack – Peter MacCallum Institute
  • Professor Anna deFazio – Westmead Institute for Medical Research
  • Dr Denis Bauer – CSIRO.

The conference will also feature presentations by students and early career researchers, and a virtual poster session.

A fantastic panel discussion will wind-up the conference, facilitated by ABC National Medical Reporter Sophie Scott. At this public forum, experts will discuss pertinent issues surrounding the implementation of precision medicine across disease areas including cancer, heart disease, immunology and more.
This conference is a unique opportunity to see the future of medicine, and is not to be missed.
