Dr Swaminathan's group has shown that the EBV transcription factor EBNA2 may be very important in the pathogenesis of MS. Current projects include:

1. To identify the effect of reducing EBNA2 function on EBV in vitro phenotypes and MS risk gene expression

2. To reduce EBV infected B cell proliferation and DNA copy number using novel nucleic acid inhibitors of EBNA2 mRNA

3. To determine the effect of sex hormones on EBV in vitro phenotypes and risk gene expression
