We discovered that Arg1 is the lead kinase in a signalling pathway essential for the virulence of C. neoformans (Cn). Without Arg1, Cn is cleared from lung in a mouse model and fails to case meningitis. Arg1 is therefore a promising drug target. Projects are available to determine the role of Arg1 in producing numerous fungal virulence traits and to identify selective Arg1 inhibitors.
