60 Minutes recently spoke with The Westmead Institute for Medical Research’s Dr Kenneth Micklethwaite’s about his work using modified immune cells – called CAR T cells.

As part of a clinical trial, Dr Micklethwaite and his team are using a Westmead-designed gene-altering leukaemia and lymphoma treatment, enabling immune cells that have been genetically engineered to hone in, and attack, tumors.

Dr Micklethwaite hopes the treatment will benefit patients with otherwise incurable blood cancers and offer them access to effective treatments that are currently unavailable in Australia, and potentially financially unattainable for most.  Read more about this life-saving research here.

To continue, Dr Micklethwaite’s research relies on philanthropic support from the community.  If you would like to support this research, or would like more information about any of the life changing work carried at The Westmead Institute for Medical Research, visit https://www.westmeadinstitute.org.au/support-us/donate or phone 02 8627 3000.
